Celebrating a Fantastic Dyspraxia Awareness Week 2025!
What an incredible week it has been! From 6th-12th October, Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland proudly hosted Awareness Week 2025 under the theme "Dyspraxia in Focus - Celebrating Strengths, Building Understanding, and Creating Inclusive Support for All Ages."
This year's programme was packed with inspiring events, powerful conversations, and creative showcases, all designed to shine a spotlight on the talents, resilience, and voices of people with Dyspraxia/DCD.
Highlights of the Week
- Lunchtime Launch: We kicked off with an energising session featuring our Youth Ambassadors Luke Finn and Cian Cunningham, alongside marathon runner Conor Friel, who continues to break stereotypes about dyspraxia and sport. They were joined by Tumi Sotire, also known as the Black Dyspraxic who spoke on the very important subject of intersectionality across disabilities.
- Advocacy & Empowerment: Jill Mellor's session on focused advocacy gave parents and carers practical tools to make their voices heard.
- Workshops & Webinars: From Charlotte Murphy's strategies for parents and educators to Mark Scully's insights on workplace inclusion, our Tuesday and Wednesday evening sessions were full of understanding, compassion and sound actionable advice.
- Lived Experience Panel: Real stories from Joanne Ryan, Eoin Cassidy, and Conor Friel reminded us of the power of resilience and community.
- Creative Voices Night: A celebration of film and music featuring works by Evan Casey, Grace Gonnelly, and composer Rob Katz, plus insights from music therapist Simon Brody.
- Navigating Adulthood & Book Reading: Sophie Goldsbury and author Sarah Surgey closed the week with heartfelt reflections and practical wisdom.
Engagement & Impact
The response was phenomenal! Hundreds joined our webinars and engaged with our social media campaign #DyspraxiaInFocus, and our new Awareness Toolkit reached schools, workplaces, and communities across Ireland.
