Transition from mainstream primary to secondary school.

Is your child with Dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder currently in 6th class in a mainstream primary school?

Is your child about to move (transition) to 1st year in a mainstream secondary school in Ireland?

If so you may be eligible to part take in a research project being completed by a occupational therapist who is completing a masters with Trinity College Dublin.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the transitions from mainstream primary to secondary school in Ireland for children with Dyspraxia/ Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD).  It will focus on children’s perceptions before and after the transition to establish what difficulties are anticipated and encountered and how you feel these could be diminished.  Children will include those aged between 11 and 14 who are currently in mainstream 6th class and are due to transition to 1st year and have a diagnosis of Dyspraxia/DCD.

The research will involve your child completing a brief self-report questionnaire once before he/she transitions to secondary school and again when he/she is in 1st year to gather information.

Please see attached further information in the parent information leaflet and the child information leaflet.  If you have any questions or if you wish to participate please contact Sarah Governey (occupational therapist) on 0863014019 or email governes@tcd.ie and a questionnaire will be sent out to you.
